It's incredibly important for everyday cis people to "come out" loud and clear as trans allies in this moment.

Thank you for voicing your support for trans people! As a public school nurse and parent of a trans adult, I was sad, angry, and disappointed when our local gender clinic closed (shame on you, UVA!) bc of the executive order. The more integrated trans care can be into primary care, the more protected these services will be (I trust)…🙏🏻

It is so disappointing how quickly supposedly "progressive" institutions complied with orders that aren't even legally binding.

Thank you for writing this wonderful piece! I’m very much a specialist so I really appreciate your perspective on the beauty (and protection for patients!, which I had not considered previously, though: of course!) in providing generalist care.

Absolutely. It's a huge issue for abortion care, addiction care, etc. Many benefits to integrating into primary care settings.

Although, of course, one more thing for the PCP to do! 😅

Providing medical care for transgender youth, quietly in a gen Peds practice has provided me with many wonderful lessons and insights. It has also strengthened my belief that pediatrics is for everyone.

I embrace what you write about cis gender fluidity throughout our lives. As a menopausal woman, I benefit from my hormone therapy which has greatly improved my quality of life. So if politics is coming for the treatment of our patients, will my hormones be next in line?

the very end with the mom! <3 I have several people in my life, both close and peripherally, who I hope have medical care as trans-affirming as what you are doing. And heck, while I am cis-female, if I'd had the $ when I was younger, I would have gotten laser hair removal so I didn't have to keep daily shaving the facial hair triggered by PCOS (alas, laser treatments don't really work on grays and I am disinclined to do electrolysis). I did take hormonal contraception to manage other aspects of that condition even when for many years there was 0 risk of me becoming pregnant. So I have absolutely benefitted from gender-affirming care, and other young family members who also have PCOS may not be so fortunate in the future.

What a wonderful, thoughtful article! Really cuts thru a lot of the flak - as experienced by all people.
